MP calls on Government to support Britain’s mining sector

On Tuesday 16th October during Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy questions Henry asked the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Richard Harrington MP, what actions the Government are taking to ensuring the mining sector is environmentally sustainable and commands local community support.

Commenting Henry said: “The mining sector is one of many the jewels in Britain’s economy, indeed there are some 2,000 mines and quarries in the UK which produce a vast range of materials. From gold in the Highlands to lithium in Cornwall, the minerals industry supports tens of thousands of jobs and contributes billions of pounds to the economy.”

“I was very pleased indeed with the Minister’s response, who has agreed to meet with me at a later date to discuss this matter further.”
