On Friday 1st February the two local MPs, Henry Bellingham and Elizabeth Truss, alongside local Borough Councillor Brian Long met with GTR and Network Rail to push for eight car trains on the King’s Lynn to King’s Cross route.
Commenting Henry said: “The meeting was incredibly positive and I very much welcome the news that the final investment decision by the Department for Transport (DfT) is expected this month. Once we have the go-ahead from the DfT Network Rail can get on with delivering the necessary infrastructure - with the view of having the new service operational by the summer of 2020. Of course, it is disappointing the original promise and commitment to get the eight car service by this summer has been broken. Both myself and Elizabeth Truss have made it very clear that there must not be any further slippage.”
“Furthermore, what is most encouraging is that GTR have said they have the rolling stock and drivers ready to implement an eight car service.”
Henry went on to say: “Given the overcrowding has now quite simply got to an unacceptable level this is very welcome news indeed. I very much look forward to working alongside GTR and Network Rail to ensure the eight car service is delivered on time.”
