“It really is very good news indeed that the Prime Minister’s recent announcement on broadband and mobile phone coverage is going to have a transformational impact on rural areas like West Norfolk. That was the view of Henry Bellingham MP for North West Norfolk when he asked the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Nicky Morgan MP, whether the announcement really was new money and whether it would fill the “not spots.”
The Secretary of State said that they are looking at every option to extend both broadband access and mobile phone connectivity. She remarked that there is going to be £5billion of extra funding to get full fibre broadband in the hardest to reach areas of the UK.
Henry went onto say: “Poor broadband and mobile phone connectivity really is impeding on investment in rural areas like West Norfolk. Not only are traditional rural businesses such as farming being adversely affected, but if new small businesses were able to open up in Norfolk’s villages, this would in itself provide a huge boost to these rural communities.”
