Henry Bellingham MP for North West Norfolk has said that he was very concerned to learn that one option being looked at by hospital management is moving surgical teams and oncology teams to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital.
Commenting Henry said: “Of course, I am very sympathetic to the QEH senior management who are facing nursing and other staff recruitment issues. I also completely support them in their recovery programme to come out of special measures. Incidentally, I do not have a problem with some of my constituents travelling to Norwich or Cambridge to receive highly specialised treatment that would not otherwise be available in King’s Lynn. This is a good use of resources and helps enable patients to receive the best possible treatment that the NHS can offer. However what I understand is being looked at here is the closure of a ward and the removal of whole surgical teams to Norwich.”
“I really cannot begin to see how this could be either a good use of staff resources or indeed something that would be fair to individual patients and their families. It would also be an admission of defeat on the part of the QEH and would seriously damage morale. So I would urge management to show more ambition as well as listening to local people.”
