MP pays tribute to campaigning Baroness and former leader of Norwich City Council

Henry Bellingham MP for North West Norfolk has paid tribute to Baroness Hollis of Heigham who died over the weekend. The campaigning Baroness was the former leader of Norwich City Council and a junior minister in the House of Lords.

Henry said: “I deeply regret the sad news regarding Pat Hollis and my heartfelt condolences go to all her family. I first got to know her when she was leader of Norwich City Council in the late 1980s, where she commanded respect for her no nonsense and common sense approach. As a pragmatic socialist she had no time for organisations like Militant Tendency or Momentum and believed strongly in working across party lines where appropriate.”

“After joining the House of Lords in 1990 she campaigned on many different issues, and she was always ready to join with me and other Norfolk MPs to try and secure the best possible deal for our great county all in all she was a remarkable person and I regard it as a great honour to have known her and to have worked with her.”
